Gilgamesh

Circle of Stones Theatre Ensemble
Pana Columbus, Producer, Steven Dennis, Director, Original Music and Music Direction by Scott Eggert, Choreography by Sarah Carlson

I have always been interested in new works. I founded the Ohio New Play Festival with Dr. Roy Berko years ago and still reveive new scripts from aspiritng playwrights in search of a producer. As a theatre historian, I am also fascinated with ancient texts and rituals and their influence on the development of theatre. So when my colleague Steven Dennis approached me to help with a preview reading of a script in progress on Gilgmesh to benefit Allentown, I didn't hesitate.

The reading was part of a larger festival held at a park by the river in Allentown. The excerpted music was original in concept and arresting, so my expectations for the full production were high. Nearly a year later, we went into rehearsal and with a few re-writes opened in the cavernous Allentown Symphony Hall. The result is a worthwhile work in progress. I hope the Circle of Stones will continue exploring new work in its quest to revitalize a fascinating small city.
