Hamlet,
Cleveland Theater Company, Hathaway Brown Theater, Directed by Thomas
Q. Fulton
This
production, an AEA Project Code offering go up by Tom
Fulton, and Andrew May, was the precursor to the soon to be formed
Cleveland Theater Company, yet another semi-futile attempt to provide
work for Cleveland-based professional actors. I came on board fairly late
in the process. Allen Leatherman had been cast as Polonius, but got a
job in Pittsburgh or somewhere for actual money and so fled the premises.
Tom called me and, with a modicum of reluctance as my wife and family
were in Chicago while she was working on her MDiv at Seabury-Western,
I accepted the role. I remember leaving early (before curtain call) one
night because I had to drive to Evanston in time for the Easter sunrise
service in which Jamin, then in the third grade was playing in the bell
choir. I had my priorities straight.

In any case, the production was enough
of a success, that soon we found ourselves doing The
Apple Tree at JCC in the Heights, and within a couple of years,
CTC moved to CSU and, the rest, as they
say...
