Pardon our Dust

CYRANO DE BERGERAC
OWU Gray Chapel, Directed by Don Eyssen

Playing Christian was more difficult for the nineteen year old on the right than one might imagine. I was dressed, though you can't tell in this old black and white photo, in a baby blue velvet suit with an enormous blond wig, picture hat with huge baby blue plumes and knee high grey suede boots. Try being macho in that get-up without looking like a total goof.

I wasn't exactly type-cast. Had I been built like a football player, I might have been able to pull it off, but at 13 pounds dripping wet, I'm afraid I had to rely on acting. I probably got the part because I was an expert fencer and could keep up with Frank Carrado's Cyrano which was quite good. I'd have been a lot happier hiding behind that huge nose. Oh, but what a thrill just to be on that stage in front of 1500 mostly filled seats. Who could trade it?
