THE FABULOUS STORYTELLER, Directed by the author, World Premiere April 18, 1998 with the following cast: Aesop......................David
J. Samuels Sets and Costumes..........................Eugene Hare Lighting Design.......................Laura M. Harasyn Puppets & Specialities Design/Construction ......................Don Morrison When we had need of a children's show for the Spring season at the Factory, I suggested that we do My Son John, A Mother Goose Odyssey. It had been some time since it had been produced, and I had never directed it, so I thought it might be a good time, but there were simply too many people in the cast, and we needed to recruit some actual children for the cast, so I hit on rewriting the script I had sold to the Cleveland Opera. The result was a three character play with as many "koken" or helpers as the traffic would allow. I used two because I had two available who need practicum hours. In theory, the play could be done without these helpers, but their black-hooded presence adds a touch of theatricality and mystery that serves the piece well. I added some original music of my own devising as I had a spectacular soprano in the person of Sarah Greer. This is hardly a necessity, albeit a nice touch. |
