"By Jove, I love you awfully

The Magistrate, by Pinero, Directed by Richard Spear

Another elegant President's Preview wrought by Richard Spear, a delightful comedy by the lesser light of the problem play. And a genuine stitch. Perhaps the most memorable performaces were a double Sunday when we had sold a benefit to the matinee crowd and and evening for what we thought would be a wonderful house. The after noon bunch turned out to be supporters of some sports team or other who had bought ticket and not used them. The few people who were in the seats seemed baffled by British accents and didn't respond. A rough go. But, we thought, tonight we have the cast of "Up With People!" Surely, the entertainers will love being entertained on their night off. And they might have been, had we had translators. "Up With People" had an international cast the vast majority of which spoke no English. Truly one of the longest days of my life...

Here are Harper Jane and I with Jan Lewis Gist (left), whom we've lost track of and Chris Coucill (embracing Harper Jane), who is still haunting Broadway Theaters.
