Tintypes, The Drury Theater, directed by Will Rhys
This was a very popular revue and the first time I got to work with Yvetta, Terry Piteo and Cliff Bemis. The reviews were uniformly strong as indicated by the excerpts below:
EXCERPTS FROM REVIEWS: Stu Levin, Critic at Large, WCLV ...a show which has everything going for it: song, dance, an excellent cast of very talented and versatile performers, good costumes and settings, and imaginative direction....Members of the cast include Wayne Turney, who never ceases to amaze, amuse and delight with his talent, his charm and his versatility. Jayne Ungers, News Herald: ...the five-member cast brings history alive by singing a total of 50 songs, many of them old-time patriotic favorites...The talents of Sharon Bicknell, Wayne S. Turney and guest artists Theresa Piteo, Cliff Bemis and Yvetta make the show a delight to audiences of any age...Turney is perfect a for the role of Charlie, an ethnic Chaplinesque character. Marcus Neiman, Median County Gazette: ...a delightful musical potpourri...captures and illuminates images, just like those metal tintypes of the late 1800's, of American history through the popular music of the day...It is Wayne S. Turney, as Charlie--the fresh off the boat "everyman," who steals the show. With his Charlie Chaplinesque style Turney celebrates freedom, opportunity, the industrial era and the love of AMerica in his presentation. It is always a joy to be fortunate enough to see Turney, but his appearance in Tintypes is a celebration..Tintypes has the fireworks of George M. Cohan, the pizzazz of Irving Berlin, and the smooth ragtime dances of Joplin and lots more. It is a celebration of the American dream that will totally entertain the entire family. etc... |
